I don't know why, I'm having a lot of trouble trying to color these things. It just doesn't work for me. The gradient randomly stops working, too. I'm just very confused. . . and does anyone know how I can color the backgrounds?

Homo Genus

Considering I was out of town since Thursday, I think this came out alright. I do have other parts I will add onto it later, and there were other things I wanted to do with it, but since I didn't have that much time, I think it came pretty close to what I wanted.
